Science Wānanga 2022

Following pandemic disruptions, Science Wānanga was excited to recently hold their first wānanga for 2022, and it was extra-special as it was the inaugural wānanga for Parawera Marae. It was awesome hosting 50 rangatahi Māori from local schools inlcuding Te Wharekura o Maniapoto, Pukeatua School, Te Awamutu College, Te Awamutu Intermediate and rangatahi who whakapapa to Parawera Marae. All rangatahi and kaiako engaged in loads of hands-on science relating to pepeha, whakapapa and genetics; fun and thrilling physics activities around wai; exploring the compounds of taonga rākau with hands-on exciting chemistry; testing one’s taste buds with different protein sources through the world of food science; and a special excursion to explore the ngahere of Maungatautari with Sanctuary Mountain Maungatauri.
